Is Digital Marketing a Better Career Option than an MBA?

The Master of Business Administration (MBA) is a post-graduate degree. MBA students study the theory and application of business and management principles. Whereas Digital marketing is the marketing of products and services through the digital medium, this includes internet, mobile phones, display advertisements, and more. To be an expert in digital marketing does not mean the person has a diploma or holds a degree in the subject.

After graduating, individuals who want an immediate reward in monetary terms, consider doing an MBA. Although recent surveys and researches have shown that MBA candidates are hired less today than in the past, many people still think the MBA in 2020 is the best option. MBA is a terminal and a professional degree. A minimum of 2 years is required to successfully complete an MBA degree. Candidates should aim for high-ranked institutes since getting an MBA from a renowned institute increases the candidate’s chances of getting hired with a good salary package.
In contrast, one does not need a formal degree to become a digital marketer. Although many universities and colleges do offer courses and diplomas in the area of digital and social media, web analytics; these diplomas and courses have not yet become as common as an MBA degree. In other words, while a degree may impress an HR recruiter, it is not essential for getting work in digital marketing. Today, in digital technology possessing the required skills is more important than holding a diploma. Companies need candidates who can help them achieve business objectives and sales targets, thus they focus more on professional expertise than on educational achievements.  
An MBA degree has lost its value today; except for a few top business schools, hundreds of universities provide a low-quality education. These institutions aim only to earn money instead of providing quality education, as a result, they are producing thousands of graduates who lack quality skills. On the other hand, digital marketing is trending more than an MBA, and it will become one of the top professions in the world since digitalization is at its peak.
The world is changing every second, as a result, the markets are also evolving, the curriculum of the MBA, on the other hand, hasn’t changed much over the years with the same orthodox theories being taught in the classroom. Digital marketing is the future of marketing as it provides the information needed to understand the market. It helps experts to understand the current market trends, and use analysis to target the masses.

Digital marketing is easy to learn as it’s a non-technical course; a person does not need a degree to pursue it. The only quality needed to become an expert in this is internet shrewdness. The duration of the course is reasonably less as compared to the MBA. There are many added benefits of learning digital marketing, as less time and investment is needed from the candidate. In the comings years, a digital marketing course will be required more than an MBA.
