Importance of Engineering Education for Pakistani Students

Engineering and other STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) programs are offered in many universities of Pakistan. There are many benefits to become an engineer and having a bachelor’s degree in engineering is the required education for this career path.  If you become an engineer, you get rewarded in a number of ways with numerous job prospects, productive salary wages and an opportunity to make a difference in the world of science.
The field of engineering is growing very fast, preferences are given to those graduates with mechanical, civil, industrial and mechanical engineers. They find work in all kinds of areas from energy to environment and health and from biomedical systems to nanotechnologies. The engineers are professionally solution providers and enjoy learning the theory of mathematics and science because it attracts natural intellectual curiosity and is applied to design and innovative applications. The engineers influence every aspect of the world around us. They are responsible to build roads and transportation systems which we use every day.  Today, engineering students get an opportunity to develop a more efficient and sustainable system for providing valuable services to humanity. They are employed in manufacturing, engineering services, government entities, and scientific research and development.

There are many public and private universities of Pakistan which are offering the engineering education in several disciplines. They develop leadership and management skills among students to supervise projects and people. They are taught to direct and coordinate engineering activities from creating plans for the development of a new product to overseeing the building activities at a construction site. Students are imparted engineering and business skills to become efficient managers who can understand the processes and practices of engineering but also the logistics of hiring and training staff and making and sticking to budgets. The University of Management and Technology (UMT) offers engineering programs at undergraduate, MS and Ph.D. level in electrical, mechanical, industrial and civil engineering. These programs are accredited/recognized by the Higher Education Commission (HEC) and Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC), SEN which instills design, application and innovation skills in its students by utilizing and involving their curiosity, intelligence, and creativity. The University of Engineering and Technology (UET) a public university and the oldest engineering institution in Pakistan, located in Lahore, Punjab specializes in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) subjects. It delivers programs in chemical engineering, petroleum and gas engineering, metallurgical engineering, architecture and city, and regional planning and others. Other institutes like COMSAT University, National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST) and The University of Central Punjab (UCP), etc., are imparting knowledge to students on various technical subjects and skillsets. They are taught to develop skills that are transferable to most industries such as problem-solving, decision making, innovation, project management, team working and communication.
One of the main reasons for studying engineering is financial. The starting salaries are among the best across all industry sectors. The demand for skilled graduates outshines supply, and businesses are struggling to find recruits for vacancies. New engineering graduates can expect to earn salaries higher than those in sales, human resources, and even finance.
These are some of the advantages of an engineering degree, and the world can always rely on more engineers. They help build a new and brighter future for all of us, and they are happy to be a part of the engineering institutions of Pakistan who are keen to build a better, safer, and more productive world.
